Step-by-Step
Your objectives in this phase are split between immediate infrastructure needs and following the weekly NPC calendar.
Phase 1: Starting the Farm (The Donkey’s Price)
- The Donkey will soon start charging Carrots for delivery. Preparing for this is crucial.
- Farm Claim: Talk to Manuel at the Dead Horse Tavern. He gives you permission to use the nearby abandoned garden plot.
- NPC: Head left from the Tavern to find the Farmer. Buy your first seeds.
- Recommended Seeds: Get at least 4 Carrot Seeds and 4 Wheat Seeds (for bread/stamina). You need a minimum of 4 seeds to plant a plot.
- Action: Return home, claim the garden plot, and plant your seeds in Empty Garden Beds. You do not need to water them.
- Infrastructure: Unlock and build the Compost Heap. This converts Crop Waste (from harvesting) into Turf (natural fertilizer).
Phase 2: Morgue and Infrastructure Repair
- Corpse quality drops quickly if left outside. Repairing the morgue is a high priority.
- Repair Chute: Repair the delivery chute outside the church (Simple Iron Parts, Wooden Planks, Stone Pieces) so bodies drop directly into the morgue. This significantly slows down decomposition.
- Repair Table: Repair the broken Autopsy Table inside the morgue (Simple Iron Parts, Wooden Planks, Stone Pieces).
- Note on Errors: Even with perfect autopsies planned, you can still incur a Surgical Error, which adds Red Skulls. If this happens, it’s often best to strip the body for parts (Fat, Flesh, Bone) and dump the unusable corpse in the river for now.
Phase 3: Accessing the Swamp (Infinite Iron)
- The Swamp is your key to continuous Iron Ore, which is essential for almost everything.
- Technology: Unlock the Carpenter’s Workbench as you’ll need the advanced planks it produces.
- Repair Bridge: The broken bridge to the west of the farm requires: Wooden Planks, Flitch, and Nails. The Carpenter’s Workbench allows you to craft the required Wooden Planks and Nails using your Sawhorse and Anvil.
- Result: You now have access to the Swamp, which has many high-yield Iron Ore deposits.
Phase 4: The Week of NPCs (New Quests)
- Day = Lust, NPC = Wagner (The Poet), Location = Tavern (with Ms. Charm), Action/New Quest = Accepts a quest for Ink and Paper to impress Ms. Charm. (Tip: Buy Ink from the Astrologer later; crafting is too complex now).
- Day = Feast, NPC = Merchant, Location = Village (right of Tavern), Action/New Quest = Confirms the Farm deal (requires 12 Carrots, 12 Cabbage, 12 Beets) and gives a new quest to find Hopping Weed (Capim Soluço) for his indigestion.
- Day = Wrath, NPC = Inquisitor, Location = Witch Hill (up past your house), Action/New Quest = Quest for Firewood and Flyers (Panfletos) to prepare for the witch burning.
- Day = Faith, NPC = Astrologer, Location = Lighthouse, Action/New Quest = Primary Goal: Deliver the Skull (Caveira) extracted from a corpse.
Phase 5: Finding the Witch (Cloto)
- The Hopping Weed quest immediately leads to the Witch.
- Hopping Weed: Find the white flower in the Swamp area.
- Deliver: Give the weed to the Merchant. He loses his sense of taste and blames a curse, asking you to find the Witch (Cloto).
- Labyrinth: Navigate the Swamp labyrinth (it’s confusing, but keep going until you find her hut).
- Cloto’s Quests: Cloto gives two important quests:
- The Cauldron: Bring a Cauldron or a Potion of Life to cure her amnesia.
- The Pumpkin: Bring a Silver Star Pumpkin (Abóbora com estrela prateada) to teach you a new soup recipe.
Phase 6: Main Quest Breakthrough: The Astrologer
- Delivering the skull moves the main story forward.
- Action: When the Astrologer arrives, give him the Skull you extracted.
- Result: He immediately opens up a trading window (allowing you to buy Ink and Paper for Wagner’s quest).
- The Church Key: He gives you a Key and explains it works on the study table in the Church Basement (Porão da Igreja). This is the key to advancing with the Rat/Snake.
Useful Tips
- The Swamp Shortcut: The Swamp has a one-way shortcut you can repair to avoid the labyrinth every time you go for Iron. When you first find the Witch, note down the materials required to repair this shortcut immediately.
- Astrologer Ink: Buy Ink from the Astrologer as soon as you unlock trade with him. Trying to craft it now will waste valuable technology points and time.
- Witch Quest Order: You have two options for the Witch: the Cauldron (from the Blacksmith) or the Potion of Life (a later alchemy recipe). Prioritize the Potion of Life quest from the Rat/Snake when you unlock the Church. It is the easiest path to advance with the Witch.
- Red vs. White Skulls: Don’t worry about perfect bodies yet. If a body is beyond saving, strip it bare (remove everything for parts), and then dispose of it. You need the materials more than the small cemetery upgrade right now.
